Gallery and Studio Expansion

RAW Art Works, Lynn, MA

RAW Art Works

RAW Art Works is a 501c3 dedicated to helping young people from the local community through art. RAW’s clinical art therapists and professional artists build meaningful relationships with each child, helping them see a broader palette of life choices. Celebrating their 25th anniversary and growing, RAW expanded into the space next door to their headquarters. The new space houses three programs: GATHER (retail, group meeting and ad hoc studio space), LAUNCH (college-bound counseling), and ART OF WORD (expression through writing). Building upon the gallery renovation completed in 2008 by Dan Hisel Architect, our collaborator in this project, the new intervention seeks to tie the identity of the existing gallery space to the new programs. Internally, the gallery and new spaces are knitted together with a series of ramps, benches, and storage areas. The new, flexible space can be divided to serve different functions or combined into a single space for events.

“Raw Art Works had to grow. Too many kids on our waiting list… Rick submerged with his team, digging deep to design a space that over 500 kids would call home. Each day as they enter our hip new ‘Gather’ space it screams ‘you matter!’ Jones Architecture is the real deal. Their sense of care and craft is hard to find. RAW scored.”
