DMSE Student Lounge

OVERVIEW

The new MIT Student Lounge, for both graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE), provides a place for students to collaborate and relax between classes. Jones Architecture combined three existing offices into one larger space to accommodate the student lounge program. Centrally located on the “Endless Corridor” of MIT’s main campus, the new Student Lounge takes advantage of views to Killian Court to create a light filled space for students to connect with one another or just grab a cup of coffee. The renovation provides DMSE students with a flexible space that can be subdivided into three smaller rooms or left open as one large space through the use of movable glass walls. There is a new kitchenette with café seating, updated finishes, flexible furniture for group study, AV system and soft seating for relaxing. When the movable glass walls are opened up the space is used for DMSE events and functions.
