Bromfield Street Residence
Newburyport, MA

OVERVIEW
The gut renovation of this 1842 post and beam house is for a young couple with twin newborns. Jones Architecture worked with Dan Hisel Architect, the architect-of-record, to design, document, and oversee construction administration. The ground floor provides living space and the upper floor is reserved for the sleeping quarters. Unique to the planning, the owner wanted to retain the 2-family legal status of the home for future resale value. To do so, a “granny flat” is incorporated into the first floor, comprised of a kitchenette, full bath, and small studio. This will be used quite regularly for in-laws who visit from abroad, giving them the privacy of their own space along with the convenience of being in the same home with their grandchildren.
