Several design strategies guided this condo renovation for a young couple with a toddler. The original configuration was a series of rooms accessed along a single corridor. The living room and kitchen were opened up, renovated, and better connected to one another. Transom windows were installed over doors into each space to maximize the 10-foot ceiling height, and allow for transmission of natural light from the exterior to interior of the footprint. A top-lit interior light shaft that was previously hidden behind a solid wall was accessed by a large, translucent window to provide natural light in the bathroom. One guest bedroom was converted to a small dining room with a custom millwork china cabinet and storage.
